===== NEW BS UPDATE HISTORY =====

This document is a list of the various updates I've made since first releasing New BS. It's just a receptacle for text that would clog the download page if I kept reposting them. :P Or, you can read these if you want to be told what the set is equipped to handle, rather than looking through it to find out. (Credits are still found on the download page)

== UPDATE 10/20/07 ~ ver. 3.1 ==

This is a purely graphical update which mostly changes some of the sprites in the tileset. The biggest change is Link, who has now been updated to True BS Link, a tilesheet by Dart Zaidyer and myself, which is intended as a version of Link that is more true to the original BS player sprites. Shieldless tiles are included for those who need them.

Along with the new Link I've drawn a new mirror shield, and it's worlds better than the old one (the old shield was probably intended to be a temporary addition, anyway). The mirror shield item sprite is an edit of one drawn by NoeL. Other item sprites that appear in Link's hands when he uses them have been adjusted to fit the new Link, but are otherwise identical. All other item changes are too minor to specifically list, but I hope you will like them nonetheless!

Enemy sprites have been changed, mostly in regards to coloring. Some predominantly red sprites have been recolored to look more red and less "pink." Patra Children have been recolored to CSet 8, since they apparently use the wrong CSet in ZC (Patra Leaders use CSet 7). BS Patras now use the correct colors (they're supposed to be grey, not blue). Regular Zols and Gels are now grey, as they were originally. Traps are no longer animated by default, since it wasn't consistent with the way the Zelda series usually portrays traps (however, the old tiles are still included).

Other additions include shieldless True BS Link tiles, assorted new item sprites, alternative graphics scattered here and there in the tile pages, and some palette fixes. Please note that the cheat codes have been changed to the numbers 1 through 4 for ease of use.

Look hard and you may notice a number of other small improvements. Have fun!

== UPDATE 8/19/05 ~ ver. 3.0 ==

Version 3 of the New BS Tileset is released! And this time it comes with a big new feature: both the 1st and 2nd Quest of the original Legend of Zelda, remade COMPLETELY from scratch in the New BS tileset, and unpassworded so you'll have complete access to their maps and other details!! :)

Naturally, it also works as a perfectly functional quest, for those of you who would like to play a version of BS 1st Quest -- and more notably, the hitherto unavailable BS 2nd Quest -- rather than use it as a tileset. This version of the two quests has some slight differences from the original, but all-in-all it is not changed much from the old Zelda.

NOTE: Both 1st and 2nd Quests are included in the same zip file.

Version 3 has new features, too. The overworld and dungeon both have new ripped/borrowed/custom tiles, and there are also new palettes, plus some bug fixes. These include:

- LTTP overworld flowers
- A selection of Gashin's Sun Tower mountain tiles (for those of you who dislike using BS mountains)
- A few graphics from BS Zelda that never made it to the tileset
- "Dark Skies" overworld palette
- "Frozen" dungeon palette
- "Burning" dungeon palette ~ faintly glows via palette cycling
- Icey dungeon floors, and raised surfaces for various other floors
- Fixed Door Combo Sets (lock blocks needed to be isolated)
- Updated enemy sprites, such as animated Ghinis and grey Gibdos
- ...more!

As always, New BS is designed to be accessible to beginners, and fully functional for experts. I hope you find it as such. :)

== UPDATE 1/22/05 ~ ver. 2.6 ==

New BS is now at version 2.6. This is a less dramatic update, which leaves the set about 98% compatible with version 2.5. Changes are as follows:

1) The "Dungeon Passageways" CSet, formerly CSet 11, has been switched with CSet 5, to allow me to check the rule "Fade CSet 5." This assures that it will not stand out from the rest of the screen during palette fades. All sprites/combos updated to reflect the change.

2) Updated the new enemy sprites to make all supported ZC-exclusive enemies functional. Details:

- Tribble enemies no longer look the same as their regular counterparts.
- Bubbles appearances changed:
Temp. Bubble = flashing multiple colors
Perm. Bubble = Red
Uncurse Bubble = Blue
Temp. Item Bubble = Green
Perm. Item Bubble = Yellow
Uncurse Item Bubble = White
- Some other enemies were altered or improved in various ways.

3) For your convenience, in the righthand column next to enemy graphics, I've included the names and corresponding CSets of every enemy at your disposal. :) Check the preview shots to see.

4) Updated the boomerang and arrow "sparkle" animations, some of which were butt-ugly in New BS 2.5.

5) Checked and unchecked certain rules to better fit the set.

== UPDATE 11/17/04 ~ ver. 2.5 ==

Here comes New BS version 2.5! The additions and changes are...

*Overworld*
- Newly organized overworld water CSet, now more compatible with other overworld CSets
- "CSet2" feature now fully implemented for grass tiles etc.
- Various combo errors and oversights fixed

*Dungeon*
- The water and lava CSets are now BOTH available in EVERY dungeon palette!
- "Passageways" CSet moved to CSet 11 to free up space in Level palettes
- Added temp. and perm. trigger tiles (available for overworld palette, too)
- All pots and skulls now break into rubble whe slashed
- Reorganized and streamlined dungeon combos
- Created shallow water tiles for dungeons
- Fewer unnecessary duplicate tiles

My apologies; due to reorganization the set is only about 50% compatible when you use the "graphics pack" export feature to apply changes to the original New Bs. However, it is still a small set, so do consider an upgrade even if you are in the midst of creating a BS quest. :)

== ORIGINAL RELEASE ~ ver. 2.0 ==
   (I forget when)

 Well, it's finally here. The New BS Tileset, a much-needed update to one of the most-used tilesets in Zelda Classic.

I put together this updated tileset with ZC learners in mind, and by that I don't mean "dumbed-down." The point of the tileset is to be easy to use, but without the many limitations that its predecessor had.

Newer features such as Link slash tiles, cuttable bushes, shallow water, tall grass, and layers are all fully ready and available. They are all designed so that you are free to use them, but you never HAVE to, particularly layers.

Other new features:

- Animated cloud & sky tiles included
- Water and lava tiles without palette cycling
- Boss Locks
- Fully-functional, ready-to-use lock blocks
- Four full Door Combo sets
- Original BS mascots included for no particular reason ;)
- Complete Level 9 "Pig Dungeon" with new palette
- BS Link tiles have been edited to remedy awkward appearances
- Various touched-up enemies (blue and red bubbles are the correct color and now flash)
- New overworld palette made to soften "retina-burning" colors
- Many new House Interior tiles
- And probably more stuff I can't think of at the moment! :D

Enjoy. :)
